I have been a woodturner since around the end of the last century. I am a registered professional turner. I have been teaching others how to turn wood for over 15 years and demonstrating at woodturning clubs, trade events and seminars for around 20 years.

Here are reviews from some of my customers who have watched one of my demonstrations or have attended one of my woodturning workshop courses. I am always pleased to hear feedback and suggestions. If you would like to leave a review, please include details of the event you are providing feedback for so I know which one you are referring to.

Platter and bowl turning

Thank you very much Paul for the turning course 4/12/24 and for your hospitality with coffees, biscuits and lunch.

I had a great day and learned a lot which I am now putting into practice on my small lathe. It was also great fun and my family were very impressed with the plate and bowl I produced.

Pauls communication, attention and patience were great and I have no hesitation in recommending this course and I'm sure others will be the same.

Thanks again Paul and I may see you at another of your courses in the future.

I hope you enjoy putting what you learned into practice and I hope to see you on a future course.

I've just been on Paul's platter and bowl turning course and thoroughly enoyed it. We started with a safety briefing before moving on to the tools we would use and then the techniques of turning. With a small group of four, Paul is able to give individual attention. He is a good communicator and very patient. I was delighted to come away with a very presentable platter and bowl. Thanks, Paul.

A great introductory course

I did Paul's Bowl and Platter course as almost a complete novice in an ideal class group of four. Paul's workshop is well equipped and he has a large stock of good tools and wood. His teaching is professional and clear, with an emphasis on safety and correct technique, whilst being entertaining at the same time. I was amazed to come away with a beautiful platter and bowl and that has truly inspired me to go forward with turning. Oh and the lunch was delicious. I'll be booking another course in the future.

Thanks Kevin, I'm glad you enjoyed the course and look forward to the next one.

Superb

Paul is a great teacher with the patience of a saint. He started the two day course by explaining all the various techniques in language a novice can understand. He started with lathes and the various types with pros and cons, then onto types of chisel, how to use the different shapes, advice on buying your own. We then had a demo on sharpening the various shaped chisels followed by a hands on session and again the pros and cons of various different grinding wheels. I never knew it could be so complex! By mid morning on the first day we were hands on the lathes learning how to create the main shapes of spindle turning, after a lovely lunch (home made soup etc made by his wife) we started on creating a bud vase and by the end of the day we all had something worth taking home and keeping. The second day was dedicated to turning a platter and then a bowl, at the end of the day we all had items well worth keeping and when I took them home to my wife she was most impressed. I cannot recommend the course and Paul more highly, he has a wealth of experience and know how to pass it on to a novice. If I ever get the space to put in a shed and a lathe I will go back for the refresher course before I start up.

I'm glad you enjoyed the course and good luck in getting that shed built!

AS an octogenarian I was rather hesitant about starting woodturning, however having attended Paul's half day introductory course I will certainly take it further. A great course and both me and my wife are amazed at the vase I ended up making from scratch in about 3 hours. I would thoroughly recommend the course.

I'm glad you enjoyed the experience and hope to see more of your creations in the future!

Prefect course to get into Woodturning

My family could not believe that I turned the bud vase, plate and bowl as a complete novice on the half day taster course and the beginners platter and bowl turning course day course. I achieved so much more than I thought possible as a result of Paul's teaching through clear explanations and demonstrations and the patient help and support he gives. Safety issues are addressed fully. There was plenty of time to ask questions and opportunity to see some of Paul's beautiful work during the lovely lunch provided. Paul has provided helpful support in my search for my first lathe.

I'm glad you enjoyed the course James. I look forward to seeing your future progress.

Brilliant

I've done the spindle/ platter and bowl courses over 2 days. Thoroughly enjoyed trying to soak up as much of Paul's extensive knowledge as possible and left with 3 great items I had made with his support and guidance. Excellent value for money. I will be back for more.

I'm pleased you enjoyed the course and look forward to the next one. Thanks for the feedback.

Great tution

Paul is a great teacher. Explains the techniques simply and patiently. Starting with what tools do what, how to care for and sharpen tools and safe working practices. Paul then takes you through the step by step process of how to make a bowl or platter or bud vase, and you get to take home something special. The courses are great value for money and fun.

Thanks for the review Sarah. Glad you enjoyed the course.

1-day Beginner's Bowl & Platter Tuning Course

On the brink of embarking on my woodturning adventure, I spent a day with two other beginners, learning the basics of bowl turning from Paul. The course was exactly what we needed and wanted. Paul was patient, knowledgeable and helpful, and his workshop was very well equipped. We learned about safety, how to operate a lathe ,and how to hold, use and sharpen the tools correctly. We all left with a very presentable sycamore platter and oak bowl each, crafted by our own hands, with Paul's guidance. The time flew by, and at the end of the very full day, I left with far more knowledge and experience that I could have gained from books or Youtube tutorials - highly recommended.

Thanks for the feedback Jon, I'm glad you found the day useful.

I have recently done the 2 day beginners woodturning course. Paul took us through the basics of safety and tools, and then guided us while making a vase, a platter and a bowl. I was amazed that we were able to get such good outcomes, and thank Paul for his patient instruction which always tried to help us learn. A must for anyone that enjoys practical activities and the lovely look and feel of wood objects.

Fantastic would recommend

Had the pleasure of watching a demonstration and having a lesson all in the same week. Regarding demo - perfectly pitched something for everyone but an explanation of the basics at each step - just what I needed, and a presentation full of passion and detail.
Regarding the lesson - extremely patient very relaxed, very friendly and exceptionally hospitable with a very nice lunch. In the words of Arnie S - we will be back
